Phyllis G. Earls, died Thursday, April 28th.  She was greatly loved by her four children, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The daughter of Elva and Chester Grant, Phyllis was born on June 7, 1939, in Syracuse, New York.  After graduating from University of Syracuse, she married Clifford D. Earls at the Hendricks Chapel in Syracuse on August 26, 1961.

In 1978, they moved from West Bloomfield, Michigan to St. Charles, Illinois and raised their four children.  She was an active and enthusiastic parent in all things for her children including St. Charles track, basketball, skiing and swimming. She also enjoyed many jobs through her career including Elgin Community College, SkyTel, Baxter, and Compass.

Her love for family was boundless as she continued to be involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities.  She was a consistent proud “Grandma Cheerleader” at band and choir concerts, baseball games, swim meets, soccer games, and track meets.  She became a known fixture, always in Saints spirit wear, at the Norris Center pool over the past 40 years cheering on first her daughters and then her grandchildren.  She enjoyed visiting her Georgia family taking in boat rides with beautiful sunsets, watching the deer ‘her deer’ feed along the lakeside, playing Bunko, heading to UGA for baseball games, and seeing the high-energy of her great grandchildren.  No matter the weather she would hardly miss a soccer game or track meet in Plainfield.  At home, Phyllis enjoyed scrapbooking and making every kind of card you can imagine, getting fresh air outside while working in the yard with Scott, then coming inside to try out new recipes.

Phyllis had a wonderful appetite for enjoying every moment.  She loved staying in contact with longtime friends and equally enjoyed meeting new friends at every opportunity.  She leaves a legacy of joy, smiles and love to all who knew her.

Survivors include son Brian (Carol) Scott, Heather (Paul) Gavras and Holly (Jon) Cabel, seven  grandchildren: Justin (Kelli) Earls, Grant (Rachel) Earls, Julian Gavras, Evan Gavras, Austin Cabel, Ben Cabel and Charlie Cabel, 3 great-grandchildren: Elliot, Rowan, and Anderson.

She was predeceased by her husband Cliff in 2008. After Cliff’s passing, Phyllis became a passionate supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Family and friends will gather for a visitation from 4-6:00 P.M. at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, St. Charles, Illinois, followed immediately with a service at 6:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Phyllis’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
