Rev. Harold A. Hein, age 93 of South Elgin, Illinois, formerly of Fort Worth, Texas, and Nigeria, West Africa, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ  April 1, 2019. He was born to Berthold and Anna Hein in Mayhew Lake Township, Minnesota. He served his country during WW II in the US Navy as a Seabee. He attended Hamline University, Marquette University and received his Master of Divinity Degree from Concordia Theological Seminary, in Springfield, Illinois. He was ordained on September 7, 1952 in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and served as a missionary for twelve years in Nigeria, West Africa. During his service in Africa, he served as dean and president of the Obot Idim Lutheran Seminary. While in Africa Rev. Harold Hein transposed the liturgy, music and hymns from The Lutheran Hymnal into SOL-FA notation for the Lutheran schools of Nigeria.  Upon returning to the United States, he received a call to serve as pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in Fort Worth, Texas in 1965. He also served as the circuit counselor in Fort Worth, was a board member of the Lutheran Bible Translators for eighteen years, was a pastoral advisor at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth, and an advisor to the Federal Correctional Institute. He retired from the pastoral ministry September 1, 1989.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years, June Anita nee Guske, three daughters; Karen (Alan) Teal of Germantown, TN, Deborah (Michael) Masoncup of St. Charles, IL, Christel Hein of Mendocino, CA, three grandchildren; Bethany (Ryan) Williams, Meredith (Ryan) Piec, David Masoncup, four great-grandchildren; Harold and Samuel Piec, Reese and Rylee Williams, two sisters; Irma (Harold) Brockberg, Arlene Flesch, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers; George (Ida) Hein, Theodore (Ann) Hein, Orville Hein, sisters; Elsie (John) Midtling, Adelaide Hein, brother-in-law Raymond Flesch.

Visitation will be 9:30 to 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 8, 2019 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 195 Nesler Road, Elgin, IL 60124. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00 A.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Garfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
