Richard C Mott, 87, of St. Charles, Illinois peacefully passed away on September 26, 2019. Husband of Sally (Joyce) Mott for 65 years, father of Christopher (Marcie) Mott, Jennifer (Tom) Mott-Mueller and grandfather of Madeline (Trevor) Fink, Michael and Mary Mueller, Adam Mott, brother of David B Mott, brother-in-law of Betsy (Richard) Bauernschmidt, and uncle of many nieces and nephews,

Preceded in death by his parents Ruth and F. Harold Mott and brother F. Douglas Mott.

Richard was raised in Birmingham Michigan.  He was the youngest of three boys. Dick enjoyed athletics all his life. He was quarterback of his high school football team and captain of the baseball team.

Dick attended the University of Colorado on a football scholarship. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He found a love of skiing while he pursued a business degree and his soon to be wife, Sally!

After college Dick and Sally were married and settled in South Bend, Indiana where Dick worked for Union Carbide. In the late 1950’s work relocated the couple to Park Forest, Illinois. While in Park Forest, their family grew from two to four. Chris arrived in 1960. Their family was complete in 1962 with the arrival of Jenny. The young family moved to St. Charles, IL. where Dick began working for a representative of United Steel and Wire. Years later Dick established The Richard C. Mott Co. which represented John Booze, United Steel and Wire along with many others. Richard retired after 30 years to enjoy his other interests.

Dick was a lifetime member of St. Charles Country Club. He served as President for a term.  Dick loved to play golf and fine tuned his game to win the Club Championship in 1970. He made many wonderful friends through his love of the sport. He was also a member of the Geneva Golf Club.  Dick served on the Delnor-Community Hospital Board in St. Charles and The Whitney Beach Board of Directors in Longboat Key, Florida. He was a dedicated member of the White Gates Skeet Club and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. ‘

Dick loved the outdoors. His favorite place to be was his farm in Ridgeway, Wisconsin. On his tractor, he’d be off mowing, moving rocks, gathering wood, mending fences, cutting paths, or just checking out the property, he was in his happy place. Along with his work on the farm Dick was forever on a quest for the perfect picnic place or scenic view for cocktail hour. Minnesota’s Big Birch Lake was another favorite place for outdoor activities and family time. Sailing was a passion of Dick’s. Whether he was tooling around the lake or navigating the open sea he sought to share his passion with all who would sail with him.

As a father, Richard was involved, supportive and a wonderful example of integrity and leisure pursuits. He was an invaluable source of sound advice. As a grandfather, Grandaddy was known for his love of cookies, blankie stealing, tractor rides, intense lessons on the skeet field, golf course and sail boat, and the walkie walkie. His innate sense could always tell when a restless little one needed to go exploring. He’d grab their hand and off they’d go on an adventure only Grandaddy could provide!

Richard will be remembered for his wonderfully dry sense of humor, his optimism, his laid back demeanor and his ability to make any gathering more fun!

A memorial Mass will be offered at 10:30 am Saturday October 5, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 400 Cedar St. St. Charles, IL. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Dick’s name to Western Golf Association Evans Scholars Foundation at https://wgaesf.org or the American Heart Association at https://www2.heart.org

"Dear Sally, Chris, and Jennie, Although we were neighbors for many years our paths did not cross often enough to be more than acquaintances. We did however, admire the Motts from afar. We are saddened by your loss and extend our sympathy and prayers to all. May your beautiful memories of Dick serve to bring smiles and laughter to you in the days ahead. God bless you always in all ways. Frank and Marilyn"
