Richard (Dick) R. Salsbury (84), of St. Charles, Illinois, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, surrounded by his wife and daughters. Richard was born on September 17, 1938 in Erie, Pennsylvania, the son of Mahlen and Irene Salsbury. He graduated from Academy High School in Erie, Pennsylvania. Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1957 – 1960, and married Nancy Schroeder of Palatine, Illinois on September 17, 1959. Richard worked as an Engineering and Project Manager for McDonald’s Corporation for 20 years before retiring in 1989.
Richard is survived by his wife Nancy, of 63 years; his daughters, Ginger (Larry) Weber, Sheryl (Shane) Kaden; cherished grandchildren, Steven Weber, Christine (Trevor) Benson, Megan (Trevor) Bennett, A.J. Dizillo and Amber Salsbury, three great granddaughters; sister, Sharon (Robert) Ryan and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and his son, James.
A Freemason since 1964, Richard served as Worshipful Master of Arlington Heights Lodge. He was also a member of the Grand Lodge Arrangements Committee for many years.
Richard joined the Scottish Rite Valley of Chicago in Spring of 1976, and served in many capacities, including that of Sovereign Prince of Chicago Council Princes of Jerusalem, and as a Director of the Scottish Rite Cathedral Association of Chicago. He became an Honorary Member of the Supreme Council and coroneted a Thirty-third Degree Mason in September 2000 before serving as Fraternal Secretary of the Coordinate Bodies of the Valley of Chicago.
In addition to his efforts on behalf of the Grand Lodge of Illinois and the Scottish Rite, Richard was an active and distinguished member of many Masonic organizations, serving as Right Eminent Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of the State of Illinois, Most Illustrious Grand Master of the Grand Council Cryptic Masons of the State of Illinois, Sovereign Holy Trinity Conclave Red Cross of Constantine Rockford, and as Dean of Frank Land Preceptory, Order of DeMolay, just to name a few. The Masonic Service will begin at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday June 3rd, 2023, at the Congregational United Church of Christ.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Congregational United Church of Christ on Saturday June 3, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. The church is located at 40W451 Fox Mill Blvd in St. Charles, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House, Shriner’s Hospitals for Children or the Congregational United Church of Christ.
