Richard Scott Darling, 76, passed away at home in Saint Charles, Illinois, on December 8, 2022. He died surrounded by his family.

“Dick,” as he was known to family and friends, was a professional insurance receivership administrator and insurance insolvency consultant to state regulators and the industry in general. Prior to opening a solo practice in 2003, he spent 46 years in the insurance industry, 35 of which were dedicated to the insolvency field.

Dick was an amazing husband and dad – he was devoted to his children, Karen and Mikell. In retirement, he enjoyed a very early morning iced coffee with a good joke and had a fondness for lemon meringue pie. He always loved cars; before marrying, he worked weekends to purchase his dream car, a 1972 Corvette, which he kept in pristine condition for 48 years.

Before moving to Saint Charles in 1997, Richard lived in Evanston, where he married his wife, Kathleen, in 1991. Before that he was an Eagle Scout, a Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow and served as a Scout Master for several years. Dick was the son of the late Paul J. and Myrtle Darling.

Those who will cherish his memory include his wife, Kathleen; his daughter, Karen Suzanne; his son, Mikell Scott; and his brothers Mikell, of St. Charles, and Paul J., of Bonita Springs, Florida.

Dick’s favorite film was 1951’s The Day The Earth Stood Still. With that, we say, “Klaatu Barada Nikto, Dad.”

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 13, from 4-7 p.m. at Yurs Funeral Home, Saint Charles. Dick’s burial will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Anderson Humane at 1000 S La Fox St, South Elgin, IL 60177.

"Oh, so many memories. My distinct youthful memories come from when Dick and family would visit my grandmother and mother here in Peoria. Always a summer highlight.A second distinct memory, and correct me if I’m wrong, was seeing his MGB during teenage visits to Evanston.Dick was a special and valued cousin to my mother and truly an expert in the insurance field, which provided professional linkage for the two of them beyond their strong family bond.I valued annual birthday greetings from Dick and extended them in return with love and respect.May all grieve fully, even as they celebrate a life well lived."
