Richard T Gonzalez, age 43, passed away in Miami, FL surrounded by family after a courageous fight against stage 4 pancreatic and liver cancer, Friday July 28, 2017.
Richie worked at Prinova for 8 years. One of the many highlights was his Wednesday night softball game where Richie was a big part of the team. He may not have hit a home run, but he was dedicated to cheer on his team mates every week. He loved spending time with his coworkers outside of work on the surprise outings that were planned by the company
Richie and Sandra met in the year 2000. After the first year, he proposed to Sandra and took the big leap to become the step dad of her two children, Gerri and Doug. Gerri and Doug never called Richie dad but accepted him as part of the family and they all fit together. Richie leaves behind his wife Sandra their beloved dog Tank of South Elgin, IL, daughter Gerri & her boyfriend Ray of Mt. Vernon, IL, son Doug & his girlfriend Jen and his beloved Makayla of South Elgin, IL. Richie is the youngest of 4 boys and is survived by the oldest Joe and Joe’s girlfriend Rose of Chicago, IL. Michael of Arizona, and David, his wife Denise and his nephew Christopher of Chicago, IL. Richard was also honored to be Christopher’s god father.
Richie is proceeded in death by his parents Joseph and Anna Gonzalez, as well as Sandra’s parents, Jerry and Katherine Quinn and Richie’s first dog with Sandra, Chuck.
Richie said, “I may have lived a short life but I had a great life.” He never let cancer hold him back, in fact it opened new doors for bigger adventures. We found out what a young heart Richie has by going on a family outing to Disneyworld. It touched our hearts to hear the laughter from him on each and every ride. Richie had a passion for all Chicago sports, he was glued to the tv watching the Cubs win the world series. Richie still lived in the 80’s complete with a mullet hair style and a love for classic 80’s rock bands. His all-time favorite bands were Kiss and Motley Crew.
A very special thank you to Dr. Desai his wonderful nurses for the continuous uplifting hope through Richie’s fight. To Richie and Sandy’s co-working family, no words could ever say what you have done to help us through ought this year, by covering shifts, calling or even sending a text. Your love is very much appreciated.
Richie lived his toughest year dealing with cancer and survived with humor and continuous love from family and friends. Thank you all so much.
