Sergeant Richard Zielinski, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his St. Charles, IL home on July 12th 2023. Richard was a decorated Veteran who served during the Vietnam War and spent six years in the Army Reserves.

He was born on August 5th 1946 in Milwaukee, WI to his parents Alvina and Roman Zielinski.  Through high school he participated in varsity football and wrestling. When he was just 18, Richard decided he wanted to enlist in the Army as a Drill Instructor and was stationed at Fort Bragg Army Base in North Carolina.

After serving our country, he joined insurance firm, Alexander & Alexander where he met and fell for Debbie, who he married in 1973. Several years later Rich and Debbie opened Maddie’s Hallmark and Flower Shop in Warrenville, IL. When he wasn’t working Richard had a passion for reading, watching war movies and playing golf.

Sgt Zielinski was an accomplished financial analyst, entrepreneur, a loving father, and a devoted husband. As a soldier, his courage was admired and his sacrifice was inspiring. His journey will always be remembered because he always would run where others would only dare to go.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie, and his three daughters Jennifer, Deanna and Rebecca who will continue to carry on his legacy. Richard is further survived by his eight grandchildren, one great grandchild and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ruth and his two brothers Ron and Ralph.

Honor, Duty, Love for Country …that is what defined our dad, our HERO.  He will forever be our guardian.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Richard’s wife, Debbie Zielinski.
