Robert “Bob” Collins, age 93, of Plato Center passed away January 27, 2019 on his family farm surrounded by his loving family.
He was born to Emil and Sidonie Collins in St. Charles, Illinois. Bob served his country during WWII and was a Purple Heart recipient. Bob started farming in 1950 west of St. Charles on Peck road. He and his wife Ruth purchased their own farm on Tower Road in Plato Center in 1969, where they raised their family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Ruth, three children, Linda (Mike) Horne, Don (Wendy) Collins, Jan (Don) Weiss, grand-children Mike (Dionne) Horne, Paul (Lisa) Horne, Dan (Katie) Horne, Matt (Stefanie) Horne, Sean (Heather Jones) Horne, Amy (Ken McVey) Collins, Ronnie (Kerri) Collins, Becky (Tim Landmeier) Collins, Jennifer (Brian) Porter, 14 great-grandchildren, sister Lorraine Kinney, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank (Mary) Collins, Charles (Elsie) Collins, Albert (Betty) Collins, sisters, Martha (Maurice) VanThournout, Irene (Henry) Regole, Katherine (Jack) Knott, brother-in-law Kahl Kinney, and infant brother Henry Collins.
Funeral mass will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday, February 4th at St. Patrick Downtown Catholic Church, 400 Cedar Street, St. Charles. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, St. Charles. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-5:00 P.M. at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, (Rt. 64), St. Charles. In lieu of flowers contributions to the St. Charles VFW would be appreciated.
