Robert Charles Cummins, age 80, died peacefully on Sunday, September 9 with family by his side.
Bob was born with a twin brother, Billie, on September 6, 1938 in New Ulm, Minnesota and grew up in Cedar Rapids, IA, one of five brothers. He attended Immaculate Conception High School in Cedar Rapids, IA and Loras College in Dubuque, IA.
After graduating with a degree in philosophy, Bob joined John Reid and Associates in Chicago and trained as a polygraph examiner. He became one of the most sought-after professionals in his field, eventually opening his own firm. During his 23 years in polygraph he investigated many famous cases including the Tylenol murders, John Wayne Gacy and the Gary Dotson/Cathy Webb case, among others.
In retirement, Bob moved to Florida where he spent his time golfing, enjoying regular trips to Disney World and attending Catholic mass daily.
He is survived by three children, Heidi (Mike) Semenek of Oswego, IL, Melissa (Robert) Lorenz of Pasadena, CA, and Peter Cummins of Davenport, IA; Six grandchildren, Kyle Meyer, Scott, Amanda and Rachel Semenek, and Jack and Rory Lorenz; his former wife Marilyn Cummins of North Aurora, IL; his older brother Richard Cummins of Chappaqua, NY, and many nieces and nephews. Bob is preceded in death by his brothers Jim, Jack and Billie and his parents Dewey and Dorothy Cummins.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am on September 14 at St. Patrick downtown Church, 400 Cedar St., St. Charles. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
