Robert (Bob) J Fondriest passed away peacefully on February 12, 2022 after a long fought battle with cancer. He leaves behind his wife Krista; his children Tim (Terra) Fondriest, Mark (Kristin) Fondriest, Rebecca (Andrew) Stringer, and Mary (Dan) Johnston and their mother Kathy Fondriest; his grandchildren Amelia, Dominic, Henry, Tucker, Ray, Layla, Emmett; Allexandrya, Spencer, Jane and Jacob; his father Bruno Fondriest; his sister Linda Andreeff; his sister-in-law Andrea; his nephews Steven (Susan) Andreeff and Dan Andreeff. Not to be forgotten is his four legged fur buddy, Garfunkle. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Efra Fondriest, and his brother-in-law, Steve Andreeff.
Bob was born on March 28, 1952 in Chicago, IL. He graduated from The University Of Illinois at Chicago, and after receiving his registered pharmacist designation, moved his family to Batavia where he spent nearly twenty years running Johnson’s Drug Store. He so enjoyed meeting people and serving the community in this capacity. After Johnson’s closed, he finished out his professional career as a clinical pharmacist with Elgin Mental Health Center.
Bob enjoyed spending time with his kids. He made many road trips around the country visiting them as they relocated for jobs and eventually settled and started families of their own. He loved being “Papa” to his grandkids and gushed about them often. Bob also spent a lot of time on his Harley and riding with his motorcycle club. He was a lover of the outdoors and nature and enjoyed the many trips he made on his bike around the country.
Bob was an avid Chicago Blackhawks fan, and his love for the sport of hockey led him to participate in men’s league tournaments in the United States, Canada and around Europe. He was a proud member of the Chicago Blackhawk Alumni Association, where he enjoyed weekly Friday skates, mentored youth through their scholarship program, and relished in the camaraderie that the Alumni provided. It goes without saying he enjoyed watching his team win three recent Stanley Cups.
After his cancer diagnosis, Bob became involved in Living Well Cancer Resource Center in Geneva. It became a place of support for him over the last several years and provided the opportunity to give back and connect with others living with cancer. Bob was recently splitting his time between St Charles, IL and Seminole, FL, where he and Krista traveled the Gulf Coast and enjoyed time together. He was a friendly, outgoing guy who will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
A Memorial Visitation will be 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Yurs Funeral Home 405 E. Main Street, St. Charles, Illinois 60174. A Memorial Service will follow the visitation at 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to: Living Well Cancer Resource Center www.livingwellcrc.org, Fox Valley Food For Health www.fvffh.org, and The Chicago Blackhawk Alumni Association www.blackhawkalumni.com
