. Palmer, Robert L.
Robert L. Palmer, 71, a long time resident of the Pottawatomie Park community of St. Charles, passed away on May 23, 2020. Bob was born in Mesa, AZ, and spent most of his childhood in Atwater, CA. The family relocated to Oswego when Bob was a teenager. Bob attended Aurora University and soon after graduation became employed at the Illinois Youth Center – Valley View (St. Charles) where he worked in various capacities until his retirement in 2001. While at IYC-Valley View Bob met Linda (nee Kawabata), a co-worker, who would become his best friend, wife, and constant companion for the next 44 years. Their friendship began over a cup of coffee with a day-long discussion about Jesus Christ. Bob had a great fondness for dogs and commonly could be seen walking around the neighborhood with a dog (his own or a neighbor’s), drinking a Starbucks coffee, and chatting with Linda. Bob was a very kind man who had a soft heart for those in need (animals and humans, alike). In addition to his wife, Linda, Bob leaves behind two brothers, a sister, and their families: Brad and Jane Palmer, Marjorie and William Brenneke, Wade Palmer, Steve Keen, and nephews Scott (Alyson), Brian (Ana), and Brett (Korie). Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Margaret Palmer to whom he was a devoted son. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolent Fund of New Covenant Bible Church (St. Charles) or the Anderson Animal Shelter (Elgin). Interment will be at North Cemetery, near his home in St. Charles, where Bob and Linda took frequent walks. For further information please call Yurs Funeral Home St. Charles 630-584-0060 |
