Ronald “Ron” Johnson was born on October 17, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to Mary and Carl Johnson but soon came back to St. Charles, Illinois, his lifelong home.  He graduated from St. Patrick’s Grade School in 1955 and then went on to graduate from St. Charles High School in 1959. Later that year, in September, he joined the US Navy and traveled the Far East visiting many different ports during his time aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard, a Naval Aircraft Carrier. He served in the Navy until September 1962, when he came back home to St. Charles.

Upon returning home from the Navy, Ron held a variety of jobs including working for Westinghouse Electric, Allis Chalmers, “The Belgium College” and Keller Kruse Welding. He also held positions at the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, St. Charles Police Department, Wayne Police Department, and as a paid on-call Firefighter with the St. Charles Fire Department. During this time he met his future wife, Prudence A.Triest. They were married in June 1973. Two years later, they welcomed their only son Christopher Johnson in November 1975.

In 1983 he joined the St. Charles Township Highway District and then in 1997 he was elected Highway Commissioner. He retired from that position in August 2015, but two years later in April 2017, he ran for and was elected as the St. Charles Township Supervisor.   There he worked on numerous projects, including projects to update and beautify the existing cemeteries throughout St. Charles Township.  He faithfully served in the position until his death in December 2025. Ron took great pride in the 40 years plus he spent with the Township and his ability to serve and improve his community in all of his various roles.

In addition to his work, Ron also found great joy in spending time with his family and friends. He was always willing to help anyone at the drop of a hat and loved being a presence in the lives of his family and grandchildren.

Ron is survived by his son Chris (Kristi) Johnson, granddaughters Madison and Mia Johnson, sisters Suzanne Johnson of Florida, Nancy (Steve) Carwile of Ohio, Margaret Drmolka of Wisconsin, Carol Johnson of St. Charles, sister-in-law, Denise Carlson of St. Charles and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ron is preceded in death by his wife, Prudence, in June 2010, his parents, Mary and Carl Johnson, one sister, Mary Louise, in 1947, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dorothy and Edward Triest, brother-in-law, Paul Drmolka, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Judy and Cliff McFadden, nephew, John McFadden, niece, Leah McFadden, and brother-in-law, Buck Carlson.

Visitation will be Monday, January 5th from 3-8:00 P.M. at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, (Rt 64 and Rt. 25), St. Charles, IL. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, January 6th at 10:30 A.M. at St. Patrick Catholic Church Crane Road, 6N491 Crane Road, St. Charles, IL.  Interment will be private at Union Cemetery, St. Charles, IL.

"I had a 40 year working relationship with Ron at St. Charles Township. I don't believe I worked with anyone as dedicated as Ron was in his positions as Highway Commissioner and then as Supervisor. He was respected state wide in his position as President of the Highway Commissioners Board and as a member of the Township Officials of Illinois Board. It was a pleasure serving with him. Rest is peace, my old friend."

"We will miss our wonderful neighbor, Ron. Always a smile on his face, always pleasant and just a wonderful guy. From using his snowblower to clean our parkway walk before we were even out of bed,, cutting our lawn with his tractor, sharing the cherries from his tree, dressing up goofy for the kids on Halloween , feeding the birds, squirrels and especially the hummingbirds, and his dedication to the memory of Pruddie. RIP Ron!"

Leigh Tracy from Batavia, IL

"Ron was a great source of advice for township officials in Kane County and throughout the state. Having served as both Highway Commissioner and Supervisor, he was undoubtedly the most knowledgeable township official in Kane County. He shared with us willingly and with humility. He will be missed."
