Roy W. Davis, born on December 2, 1942, to Roy and Mary Davis in Chicago, passed away on August 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A man of courage, integrity, and unwavering devotion, Roy embodied the values of service, dedication, and love throughout his life. He was the beloved husband of 46 years to Terry Davis (née Schneider) and a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served his country honorably during the Vietnam War.
For 31 years, Roy served as a dedicated member of the Chicago Police Department, protecting and serving his community with honor and professionalism. His commitment to justice and public safety left a lasting impact not only on the neighborhoods he served but also on the countless colleagues and citizens who had the privilege of knowing him. Beyond his professional achievements, he was admired for his kindness, humility, and sense of humor.
Family was the cornerstone of Roy’s life. He will be fondly remembered by his devoted wife, Terry, his loving daughters Colleen (Rick) Paez and Elaine (John) Matuga, and his cherished grandchildren Patrick and Molly Paez, who brought him immense joy and pride. Roy was the best brother to sisters, Marleen (Gordon) Matz and Pat (Jack) Howlett, and a fond brother-in-law to many members of the Schneider family. He treasured the love and laughter he shared with his nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Each relationship he cultivated was a testament to his warm and generous spirit.
Roy’s life was filled with cherished moments, from family gatherings to celebrating special milestones with those he loved. He had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures, whether it was a round of golf, enjoying game night with his grandchildren, or sharing stories that always brought a smile to those around him. His deep love for animals was reflected in the care he showed to his late dogs Abbey, Buddy, Mickey, Cookie, and Daisy, who were an integral part of his life and brought him companionship and happiness.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marleen, dear friends, and his loyal dogs, who were waiting to greet him once again. Roy’s legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will forever be remembered for the remarkable life he lived and the lives he touched.
The family takes comfort in knowing that Roy’s memory will always be a guiding light for those he leaves behind and that his spirit will continue to inspire those who were lucky to know and love him.
Visitation will be Monday August 11 ,2025, from 9:30-11:30 A.M. at St. Patrick Crane Road Church (6N491 Crane Road St. Charles, IL 60175). The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 A.M. "Roy was a great brother-in-law, uncle and friend to our family. We will treasure the time we spent with him at family gatherings, thrift shopping and our marathon skip-Bo games. He truly was a Champion of much more than Skip-Bo. He was a “natural” (as he would say when he won with out a skip-Bo card in his hand). His easy going personality made it easy to talk to him, laugh with him and sing with him. We will miss him dearly."
Michael Wolter from Itasca, IL
"Karolee and I pass on our love and condolences. Roy lived an incredible life protecting the citizens of our great nation and city."
Linda Sheriff from Camdenton, MO

"My wife and I first met Roy at NW Federal Savings where we all collectively worked around the same time. Roy was a great guy, always cheerful and friendly. I continued my friendship with Roy, "On da' Job" (CPD) where he was a respected and dedicated detective. Roy always lit up a room and we enjoyed many memorable laughs together. He will always be remembered truly as... 'Chicago's Finest.' Rest in peace, brother. Thanks for all the great memories."

"No need to say how very much we're going to miss Roy and the fun times we had with him, Terry and the Lohans. Roy always knew how to make us laugh and was always open-hearted, loyal and trustworthy. He was a true gentleman who we always considered a great friend ( except when he was near a karaoke machine). Thank you for being who and what you were. God bless you, Buddy."
