Obituaries

Russell R. Miller, 95, LaGrange, IL, passed into eternal life on June 23, 2024. He is survived by his cherished children Cheron (Mark) Kneedy, Michael (Margaret) Miller, Paul (Cindy) Miller, his adored grandchildren Tim (Nicole) Kneedy, Mindy Kneedy (Daniel Kfoury), his treasured great-grandchildren Grace and Ian Kneedy, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Emanuel and Azeline Virginia (Hogan) Miller and his beloved wife of 71 years, Elsie L. Miller.

Born in Iowa Falls, IA on September 20, 1928 Russell graduated from the University of Iowa following his honorable discharge from the United States Navy, where he served on John Rodgers Field – Naval Air Transport Naval Air Station Barbers Point, Oahu, HI.  He went on to have a highly successful career in international sales with companies AT&T, Univac, Ampex, Boeing Company, retiring from Zenith Electronics. Through his business and pleasure travel, Russell visited more than 100 countries around the world, several more than once, becoming a member of the Travelers’ Century Club.

In retirement he volunteered his services and enthusiastically led projects in multiple countries for the International Executive Service Corps, the World Bank, UNDP, and UNIDO. Russ served as a consultant for the U.S. government in post-Soviet Union states regarding privatization and defense conversion issues. In later years he found his calling as an author of both scholarly nonfiction, nonfiction narrative, and fiction novels. “The Spy with a Clean Face” – the first in his spy novel trilogy – won the prestigious American Authors Silver Quill Award.

A private funeral will take place in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
