Steve was born in Madison, Wisconsin to John (Jack) and Rita Henne on August 9th, 1956. Steve attended school in Sycamore, Illinois and graduated from Sycamore High School in 1974. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Law Enforcement from Western Illinois University in 1978.
For nearly 40 years, Steve worked in the insurance industry obtaining certifications in Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). He enthusiastically worked for over 14 years at The National Catholic Risk Retention Group, Lisle, IL, as a claims advisor and most recently continued to serve the organization as Vice President of Claims and Shareholder Initiatives.
Steve truly loved his God and faith, being a parishioner along with his family of St. Patrick Catholic, Church for over 25 years. Being devout and excited about his church, he served as Eurcharistic Minister and actively participated in the Church’s program, That Man Is You!! He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Susan, his daughter Natalie, his son David and Jenny (Davids fiance), and his brother Kurt and sister Felicia, his nephew Trent and niece Racheal and Casandra, his brother-in-law John and Dennis and sister-in-law Kim, and his father Jack and mother Rita.
By all who knew Steve as family and friend, he will be greatly missed. We who had the blessing of being in Steve’s journey through life, he offered each of us love, compassion, laughter, the joy of living, excitement for adventure and challenge and most kindly, a listening ear.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that charitable contributions be made in honor of Steve Henne to the LivingWell Cancer Resource Center, 442 Williamsburg Ave., Geneva, IL 60134. Please state that your memorial is made on the behalf of Steve Henne.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Steve Henne. Steve died yesterday morning near his home in St. Charles, IL. He was 63.
Steve was our Vice President-Claims and Shareholder Initiatives, essentially our #2 at National Catholic. He was a visible presence at claims mediations around the country and a well-regarded speaker at the major events that National Catholic hosted over the years.
Steve was with us at National Catholic for nearly 14 years. In that time many of you knew Steve for his work to evaluate and settle the liability claims of National Catholic’s Insured Shareholders.
He performed that role so well and created so many wonderful relationships with Shareholders, brokers, lawyers and claim administrators that his duties were expanded to include hosting Risk Management and Claims Workshops, editing the National Catholic Report and making valuable insurance and risk management content available to our community.

Sue (Bussone) Ohde from Chetek, WI
"With deepest sympathy in the loss of a son, brother, husband, father, uncle and dear friend to so many. Heavens gain is our most significant loss. Starting in Sycamore, continuing on to college and then paths their lives took them, Steve was another son & brother to the Bussone family. May the years of memories sustain all who loved him, during this difficult time. Rest in eternal peace Steve."
Jack and Jeanne Palmer from Geneva, IL
"We first met Steve and Susan at Living Well Cancer Center. After several meetings, I was very impressed with Steve’s loyalty and love for his family. Although Steve was actually going through the harsh cancer treatments, he was more worried about how his wife and family would handle it. We are happy to have met Steve and Susan, and we’ll pray for the Henne family during this difficult time."
Kevin Mendenhall & Jeanna Capito from St Charles, IL
