"Steve and I were in first grade through graduation together. He was an icon in St. Charles, probably walking more miles in town than anyone else, and remembering more birthdays as well. I gave him a ride to our 50th reunion last year. Towards the end I asked him if he was ready to go home. He gave me that big smile and said he wanted to stay a little longer and of course we did. A few minutes later I saw him up on the dance floor, dancing with a girl from our class. And that’s how I will always remember him. A big smile, dancing, and happy."
Frank McCarron from Hilton Head , SC

"We live on 13th Street so the Maxwells were neighborhood friends since 1970. I will so miss being greeted at Jewel with "Hi Mrs. Leckbee, January 11, 1936" Like so many others, Steve never forgot a birthday----I need a calendar to do that. If you were driving in St. Charles, and saw a man walking, you could bet it was Steve. I've often wondered how many miles he clocked! Rest in peace, Steve."
Karen from St. Charles, IL

"We will miss seeing Steve at Jewel and walking around town. Dan would offer him a ride but “Maxwell” would say no. He didn’t want to be seen in a police car. A true St Charles legend and one of the smartest people I had the privilege of knowing"
