Upon his return to the U.S., Terry and Patricia married in August 1972. He went on to earn a Masters in College Student Personnel Administration from Indiana University as well as a Ph.D in Higher Education from Florida State University.

Terry and Pat returned to Illinois, and in 1980 Terry joined the faculty in the Higher Education department at Loyola University Chicago. During his 38 years at Loyola, Terry taught and worked with graduate and doctoral level students. For over a decade he offered a summer seminar for his students at Loyola’s campus in Rome, Italy. Terry also served in many leadership roles both at Loyola as well as within the Illinois College Personnel Association and the American College Personnel Association.
