Walter M Guzy, 101, of St. Charles, formerly of Brighton Park, Chicago, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017.
He was born on May 5, 1916. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Josphine (nee Horazy).
Surviving are his daughters, Carol Buras (the late Robert) and Diane Brown (Robert); grandchildren, Brigid Padiak (Justin), Christopher Brown, and Michael Brown (Jessica); great-granddaughters, Penelope Padiak, Josphine and Annie Brown; dear uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Walter served in the United States Army as a Machine Gunner under General George Patton from December, 1943 to January, 1946. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star.
While living in Chicago, he was an active member of Five Holy Martyrs Parish, where he held many leadership positions as a member of the Holy Name Society and served for many years as a trustee of the parish. He was also a member of VFW Rhine Post 2729 and Catholic War Veterans Post 500 of Chicago.
During his years in St. Charles he was an active member of the St. John Neumann Silver Foxes.
Visitation will be held at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles, on Friday, September 1,2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral Mass at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2900 E. Main St., St. Charles on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be private.
